3G

3G, or third generation, is the generic term used for the next generation of mobile communications systems. The new systems will enhance the services available today and offer multimedia and internet access and the ability to view video footage.

With the 3G phone and access to the 3G network you can access the fast internet, watch live TV, you can send and receive video calls, download music tracks. It offers 3 Mbps speed for downloading, which is very high as compared to that of the 2G technology.

Technically, the main difference between 3G and 2G networks is how quickly data can be sent and received. 3G networks can send data up to 35-42 times the rates of earlier digital networks, which means that in addition to audio, graphics and text, 3G customers can also send and receive video content, in 3G coverage areas.

Applications of 3G:

  • Video conferencing – users can see as well as talk to each other from the remote places and can participate in the discussions and interviews. Even the students can participate in the e-learning programs conducted by the Universities etc. Especially Now a day’s even the court cases are also solved through the help of Video Conferencing.
  • Video on demand – customers can select from the list of movies and watch them directly on their 3G device.
  • Location-based services – service providers sends the localized information and even the weather and traffic conditions based on the customer’s request.
  • Mobile TV – service provider directs the TV channels to the customers device so that the TV channel can be watched especially Live sports.

3G has the following improvements over the previous Generations:
  • High speed data transfer.
  • Supports Video-conferencing.
  • Web and WAP browsing at higher speeds.
  • This has led a milestone for the growth of IPTV technology.
  • Faster audio and Video streaming.

3G uses cell phone network protocol, and some of the network protocols of 3G are
  • HSDPA: High-Speed Downlink Packet Access
  • UTMS: Universal Mobile Telecommunication Service
